Planned Costumes for 2011
This is my first post on this new blog!
I don't usually like to broadcast my costume plans to the world before I start work on them... I always worry that I'll make these plans for myself and then utterly fail to follow through... but... If you're reading this, just understand this is all in the pre-planning stage and I may shift plans as the year progresses. I would hate to say, "Yeaaah! I'm gonna make all these costumes!" ...and then not make all of them. But, I like doing these planning posts just to get my thoughts in order and to try to keep myself to a schedule. So, what the hell. Here's what I've got in mind for the coming year!
--- Planned Costumes 2011 ---
New Steampunk Bustle Dress
Deadline: Jan 1st.
To replace the one I just sold to my lovely friend, Cindy! I'm working on a new pink/red bustle dress right now. I finished most of the skirt last week at Kelly's, and I'm planning to complete most of the rest of it tomorrow. Unfortunately, I made it slightly too small for myself because I was using a new pattern and wasn't sure about sizing. I know, I'm dumb. But it's okay, as I was planning to do one photoshoot in it and then sell it anyway. So that's no big deal.

Batman: Huntress
Deadline: Jan 30th.
This is a quick and fairly easy costume that I'd like to have done in the next month, for no event in particular.
I realized I have a bunch of purple spandex in my fabric bin, so I figured why not use it? Also, I've NEVER done a superhero/comic book costume, and that's just wrong. I love Huntress. Her little crossbow and all her gadgets are just awesome. This is a very simple, cartoony version of her costume, from Batman: The Brave and the Bold, I believe. Anyway, I need more comfy costumes that I can stand around my artist tables in, so this will be a great outfit to add to my closet. Also: IT'S PURPLE. :D

Vocaloids: Magnet
Deadline: Momocon - Mar 12th.
I'm not sure whether I'm doing Miku or the other girl, but it really doesn't matter to me. They're both adorable. Whichever one I do, Lindsay is planning to do the other so we make a pair.

Hellsing: Bloody Seras
Deadline: Otakon - Jul 29th.
I started on this one last year and ran out of time and money to get her finished in time for Ota '10. Hopefully I'll have time to finish her this year.

TRON Legacy: Gem
Deadline: DragonCon - Sept 1st.
This is going to be my baby this year.
I've wanted to make a TRON costume since we watched that first trailer for it over a year ago. Originally I wanted to do a black bodysuit like Quorra, but... after watching more clips (I am horrible and haven't actually SEEN the movie yet!) I really like the white suits of the Sirens... and I love Gem's white hair in that cute bun! And I LOVE that weird extra piece on the heel of her boots! Plus, I just look much more like her than Quorra... so... if I'm going to do an actual character from the movie, and not just my own original program (which we had also played around with as an idea) I think I need to be her.
Also, I have an adorable idea for a prosthetic hand to go with a TRON suit. This needs to happen. <3

And that's all I have lined up for this year so far. I would still like to make a Star Trek uniform of some kind... or some other simple anime costume or some such... Sigh, I still REALLY want to do a Mystique... AND Cardinal Sforza... and I was hoping to work in one of Lady Gaga's simpler outfits... but I have no definite plans as of now. I don't want to schedule anything else in and then have it not happen. So for now, we'll just wait and see what I am able to make time for.
I'm hoping for a good year. A better year than 2010. A new start for me in costuming... as I'm doing more stuff of my own now, and not so much with the Outland Armour group. I'm hoping to really get my own business going at cons... and I'm also pursuing new career options in the "real world" as well. So I'm hoping for success in both of those areas. Wish me luck! <3
Happy New Year and I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas/Hanukkah/Festivus/whateveryoucelebrate!
